Columns are, at their core, concentrated stories. Tales of specialty subjects, persuasive arguments and real messages many can identify with, all presented in the range of 1,000 words or less.
The best columns unfold when the writer feels passionate about the subject matter, allowing their unique voice to lend humor, insight, outrage or curiosity to the events. A catchy lead, a beginning that sets the stage and draws you in, a middle that tells the story and an ending that wraps it all up are only a scratch on the surface of the kinds of details that make up a compelling column.
What’s Your Story?
Let me create and write a column to tell your stories. Have an anecdote? An observation? A specific point of view? I can help you tell your story with conviction and focus.
I can also make contributions to your publication, writing on a multitude of subjects relevant to your focus and theme.
Here is a link to just a few samples of my award-winning column, Coastie Life, about life in the U.S. Coast Guard, as well as another column, Cindy’s World, in which I wrote about the trials and tribulations of my early years in parenting. Both were published in the Cape May Country Herald in Cape May, New Jersey.
